Flavorpill Media is a digital media publisher, encompassing Flavorpill.com, Flavorwire.com, and Everup.com. We also have 15+ years of experience designing and producing award-winning custom experiences.

We are a community of writers, editors, developers, designers, and sales and marketing creatives.

Covering art, music, books, film, and design on Flavorwire, as well as worthwhile events on Flavorpill, our job is to help connect readers with inspiring culture. From highbrow to lowbrow and across genres, we highlight pop culture and experiences worthy of attention.

We’re looking for people to join a place of business where:
    - We work out of an open-plan office in the heart of Soho, New York
    - We work hard and have fun with amazingly talented people
    - We don’t just talk about culture, we LIVE it -- from museums and gallery openings,  to theatre, film, and concerts

The Editorial assistant is an extremely hands-on role helping a small, vibrant pop culture website reach our audience each day. The job is five hours a day, approximately 8.30-1.30pm

The EA performs a mix of administrative and editorial tasks each morning, including curating a daily news email for the staff and a daily newsletter for our readers and writers. The EA schedules social media copy on various platforms. On top of this, there is considerable opportunity to develop their writing and blogging voice by writing news posts as well as features and lists, generating clips and criticism/reporting experience.

Candidates with particular interests in books and music are encouraged to apply.

You are extremely well-able to master and use new technology and platforms for social media and email. You are self-directed, efficient and most importantly have sound judgment and understanding of our smart, funny and passionate voice and audience.

You are a voracious consumer of pop culture websites and can identify the big stories of the day, any given day. You have a good eye for clean copy and can generate snappy, clear headlines and sentences. You have a sense of humor and the ability to adapt and multitask.

Each morning, you will peruse the biggest arts and culture sites and choose a few big stories to send to the staff.

You’ll help write, assign and social news briefs based on those stories and share them on social media,as well as sharing our three or four features of the day on social channels.

Around lunchtime, you’ll put together our daily  newsletter and send it out to our thousands of readers.

If the EA is efficient, there will be time and opportunity to write and curate stories specific to books and publishing, including some longer criticism.

  • Demonstrated experience running social media for at least one brand. Newsletter experience a plus.
  • Writing and editing skills.
  • At least two years in a fast-paced journalism, publishing or PR environment.
